The fruits of ingenuity, tenacity, and total commitment to quality
Flanders Electric Motor Service: A hometown electric motor repair shop
A privately owned, family-operated business, FLANDERS began as Flanders Electric Motor Service, Inc., a repair shop in Evansville, Indiana that Roy Patterson and Bud Havens purchased from Frank Flanders in 1962. At the time, Roy had been working for the company since the late 1940’s.
Roy and Bud had a mission for Flanders Electric:
Do the best job humanly possible, in the least amount of time
Give customers excellent service around the clock
And never give up on solving a customer’s problem
Growing with high demand for fast, high-quality industrial motor repair
Over the next ten years, Flanders Electric expanded six times to keep up with customer demand, as we continued increasing our geographic reach and offerings in DC and AC electric motor repair, DC and AC rewinding, welding, machining, and troubleshooting. We also started working on increasingly large power systems and developing motors and drives for the world’s largest existing heavy machines in mining, milling, and other industries.
“Roy Patterson was able to expand the business by solving problems his customers had, not only in the rebuild world but also on the service side of the business.”
— Larry Powelson, Regional Field Engineering Manager, Southwest U.S. and Mexico
Field and shop insights inspiring innovation and a new product family
Seeing significant opportunities to improve electric rotating equipment, as well as processes to repair and manufacture it, Flanders Electric began developing innovations that included new fabrication techniques, improved armature windings, and even full machine control systems.
With the launch of our Control Systems product family, we shifted from focusing on optimizing and maintaining motors and drives in particular, to solving bigger machine and fleet-level challenges with solutions that integrate Control Systems, Power Systems, and comprehensive Services. These included technologies for full machine automation as well as machine health monitoring across operations with diverse machines.
In 2012, realizing we’d outgrown the “Electric Motors” part of our name, we rebranded our company name simply to FLANDERS.

Our headquarters in Evansville, Indiana
Situated on an elbow of the Ohio River, Evansville has long been a center of trade, transportation, and industry in the region, and it’s very much a “working town.” Evansville remains our global headquarters and we’re a significant employer in the area.
